Athletic Mouth Guards

National Facial Protection Month is coming up in April, and according to the National Youth Sports Safety Foundation an estimated 3 million teeth will be knocked out in sports this year.

It is highly recommended that athletes of all ages wear mouth guards to protect their teeth!  The National Youth Sports Safety Foundation reports that athletes who don’t wear protective mouth guards are 60 times more likely to damage their teeth.

The American Association of Orthodontics did a survey and 67% of parents said their children do not wear protective mouth gear while participating in sports.

The American Dental Association recommends guards for participants of both contact and non-contact sporting activities.

The American Dental Association says that “studies of mouth guard users and nonusers have consistently shown that mouth guards offer significant protection against sports-related injuries to the teeth and soft tissues. Mouth guards provide a resilient, protective surface to distribute and dissipate forces on impact, thereby minimizing the severity of traumatic injury to the hard or soft tissues.”

Having a fitted mouth guard is important to keep that winning smile perfect!
